How to Access and Activate the Facebook Dating App

Finding love has become easier with Facebook’s Dating feature. If you have a smartphone and a Facebook account, you’re already halfway there. The rest is simply knowing where to look and how to get started. Whether you're new to dating apps or just curious, here's a clear guide on how to access and activate the Facebook Dating app.

Step 1: Make Sure You Have the Facebook App

First, understand that Facebook Dating isn’t a separate app. It’s built into the Facebook mobile app. So, if you don’t have the Facebook app on your phone, head to your app store and download it. Type “Facebook” in the search bar and install the app.

If you already have it installed, check for updates. Open your App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android), search for Facebook, and tap “Update” if it appears. Facebook Dating only works on the latest version.

Step 2: Log In to Your Facebook Account

Once you’ve installed or updated the app, open it. Enter your email or phone number and your password. If you don't have a Facebook account yet, you'll need to sign up first.

After logging in, you’ll be on your regular Facebook home screen. From here, everything else happens inside the same app.

Step 3: Locate the Facebook Dating Icon

Tap the three horizontal lines on the top right (Android) or bottom right (iPhone). This opens your Facebook menu.

Scroll down the menu until you see “Dating.” If you don’t see it immediately, tap “See More.” The Dating icon looks like a heart. Once you find it, tap it.

If the icon still doesn’t show up, Facebook Dating might not be available in your country or region. It also might not appear if your account is very new or if your age doesn’t meet the minimum requirement (18+).

Step 4: Tap “Get Started”

After tapping the Dating icon, you'll land on a welcome screen. Facebook will show you a brief explanation of how dating works. It won’t show your dating profile to your regular Facebook friends, and your dating activity doesn’t appear on your main timeline.

Tap the “Get Started” button. From here, you’ll begin setting up your profile.

Step 5: Build Your Dating Profile

Facebook will automatically use your first name, age, and location. But you’ll need to add more to help you find the right matches. You’ll be prompted to include:

  • Gender and who you’re interested in

  • Height, job, and education

  • Religion and lifestyle preferences

  • A short bio or answers to prompt questions

  • Up to nine profile photos

Photos can come from your phone or your Facebook gallery. Choose clear pictures that represent you well.

Step 6: Set Your Match Preferences

After entering your details, set the kind of people you'd like to meet. You can filter by:

  • Age range

  • Distance

  • Religion

  • Children or no children

  • Interests and values

These filters help Facebook suggest better matches based on your lifestyle and expectations.

Step 7: Start Exploring Matches

Once everything is set, you can begin browsing matches. Facebook will suggest people based on your preferences, mutual interests, and location. You can like or pass on each profile. If someone you like likes you back, it's a match.

There’s also a feature called “Secret Crush.” You can pick up to nine Facebook friends or Instagram followers you secretly like. If they’ve activated Facebook Dating and pick you too, you’ll both be notified.

Step 8: Enable Notifications

To keep up with messages and matches, turn on Dating notifications. Open Settings in the app, go to “Notifications,” then scroll to “Dating,” and enable alerts.

Final Thought

Accessing and activating Facebook Dating is simple once you know where to look. There’s no separate app, no cost, and no extra logins. Just update your Facebook app, find the Dating icon, and create your profile. With the right setup, you’re one step closer to meaningful connections.
